Delta Assembly Begins Six-Week Recess…Commends Lawmakers, Staff, Media

The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday commenced its six-week annual recess, allowing members to attend to constituency engagements, participate in capacity-building programmes and take a well-deserved break ahead of the next legislative session.

The motion for the adjournment was moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, seconded by Hon. Pereotu Oloye, representing Burutu II Constituency, and unanimously adopted during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

Before formally declaring the recess, Speaker Guwor commended members for their diligence, dedication and commitment to legislative responsibilities throughout the session.

He urged lawmakers to take advantage of the break to strengthen their legislative capacity through scheduled training programmes while maintaining close contact with their constituents.

“I commend all of you for your hard work, commitment and dedication to the service of our people. I encourage you to seize the opportunity of the forthcoming training to acquire more legislative knowledge that will further enhance your performance,” the Speaker said.

He also advised members to use the recess to engage with their constituents, obtain feedback on government policies and programmes, and return with their concerns and aspirations for legislative consideration.

Speaker Guwor further commended the management and staff of the Delta State House of Assembly for their professionalism and unwavering support, noting that their commitment has contributed significantly to the efficient functioning of the legislature.

He equally praised members of the media for their consistent, balanced and responsible coverage of the Assembly’s activities, including plenary sessions, committee meetings and oversight functions.

The Speaker called on journalists to sustain their partnership with the legislature in keeping the public adequately informed, while expressing appreciation to all stakeholders for their support in facilitating the smooth conduct of legislative business and the passage of people-oriented bills and motions.

He prayed for safe travels for all members, staff and stakeholders during the recess and expressed optimism that they would return refreshed for more productive legislative engagements.

The House is expected to resume plenary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
