The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has congratulated Comrade Azuka Chiemeka on his re-election as Vice President, South-South Zone, of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The council, in a congratulatory message signed by its Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and Assistant Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, described Chiemeka’s re-election as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity, professional competence and contributions to the development of sports journalism.
Chiemeka, popularly known as “Sports Bazuka,” is a veteran sports journalist and administrator with more than two decades of experience in sports reporting and administration.
The NUJ noted that his previous service as Chairman of SWAN, Delta State Chapter, was marked by what it described as purposeful and responsible leadership, earning him recognition among colleagues within and outside the journalism profession.
According to the council, his re-election provides an opportunity for him to consolidate on the achievements recorded during his previous tenure and contribute further to the development of sports journalism and sports across the South-South geopolitical zone.
The NUJ Delta State Council also described SWAN as an important professional affiliate with a strategic role in promoting specialised journalism and advancing the interests of sports journalists.
It expressed optimism that Chiemeka’s renewed mandate would further strengthen the relationship between NUJ and SWAN, particularly in the areas of professional development, capacity building, ethical journalism and the protection of journalists’ collective interests.
The council assured the newly re-elected SWAN South-South Vice President of its continued support and cooperation, saying his experience, leadership qualities and professional network would add value to the activities of the association in the zone.
The NUJ further called on members of SWAN and stakeholders in the sports sector to support Chiemeka in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The council urged him to remain committed to professionalism, unity and excellence, while wishing him a successful and impactful tenure.
“Once again, the NUJ Delta State Council congratulates Comrade Azuka Chiemeka on his re-election and wishes him a successful, impactful and fulfilling tenure,” the statement said.
