Police: Interpol NCB arrested over 10 fugitives, seized N2bn criminal assets in one year

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says the country’s Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) arrested more than 10 fugitives and seized criminal assets worth N2 billion between September 7, 2025, and August 2026.

The police said the bureau recorded more than five international extraditions and rescued 60 trafficked and kidnapped victims within the period under review.

The NPF said the arrests and extraditions were made “through sustained international police cooperation and intelligence-sharing with law enforcement partners across the globe”.

The figures were published by NPF in a statement released by the NPF to mark the International Police Celebration Day, observed annually on September 7.

The day was set aside by the United Nations General Assembly to highlight the importance of international cooperation in supporting national police and law enforcement agencies.

Based in Abuja, Interpol NCB Nigeria helps in “coordinating international investigations and facilitating criminal intelligence-sharing through INTERPOL’s secure global police network”.

The police said more than 43 financial crimes cases involving 30 countries were investigated by the bureau.

“During the period, these efforts resulted in 10+ fugitives arrested, 5+ international extraditions and handovers completed, 60+ trafficking and kidnapping victims rescued, over ₦2 billion in criminal assets permanently forfeited, 43+ financial crime cases investigated, and 15+ cybercrime referrals received from partner NCBs,” the statement reads.

“Beyond the numbers, these operations delivered tangible results: fugitives located and brought closer to justice across borders, trafficking and kidnapping networks disrupted, victims rescued and reunited with safety, criminal assets recovered, and complex financial and cybercrime investigations advanced through coordinated action with INTERPOL partner countries across five continents.

“This is the impact of police cooperation without borders connecting intelligence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that criminals have fewer places to hide.”
