The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for inaugurating the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC), describing the move as a major milestone in strengthening integrity, transparency and global competitiveness in Nigerian sports.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commission’s spokesperson, Ademola Lawrence, Omidiran said the inauguration of the Board in Abuja, following the enactment of the National Anti-Doping Act, 2025, demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the credibility of Nigerian sports and aligning the country with international best practices under the World Anti-Doping Code.
Omidiran, who also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, described the establishment of the Centre as a strategic institutional reform that supports the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting accountability, fairness and excellence across Nigeria’s sports sector.
“The inauguration of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre Technical Board is a landmark achievement for Nigerian sports. It reflects the Federal Government’s determination to protect clean athletes, uphold integrity in competition and restore greater confidence in Nigeria’s sporting system both nationally and internationally,” she said.
She noted that sports remain a powerful tool for national unity, youth development and economic growth, stressing that protecting the integrity of competitions is vital to sustaining public confidence and enhancing Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage.
The FCC Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s support for initiatives that strengthen public institutions, promote transparency and advance national development. She expressed confidence that the Technical Board would play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of integrity and clean competition in Nigerian sports.
Omidiran also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the National Assembly, the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders whose collaborative efforts led to the establishment of the statutory anti-doping institution.
She congratulated the Chairman and members of the Technical Board on their appointments and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, independence and fairness.
“Their success will not only protect the future of our athletes but also strengthen Nigeria’s standing within the global sporting community,” she added.
