The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has congratulated its President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on his re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.
Adeniyi, who is also the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), was unanimously re-elected during the WCO Council Sessions held at the organisation’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. His re-election further strengthens his historic achievement as the first Nigerian to lead the 73-year-old global customs body, which comprises 187 member countries and serves as the highest decision-making authority in international customs administration.
In a goodwill message issued through the Federation’s Media Assistant, Promise Okotoko, the Vice President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Chris Amkpila, congratulated Adeniyi on behalf of the federation’s board and the entire wrestling family. He described the achievement as a significant milestone that continues to project Nigeria positively on the global stage.
The federation also congratulated the management and staff of the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that Adeniyi’s exemplary leadership, deep understanding of customs administration, and commitment to reform have earned him both national and international recognition.
According to the statement, Adeniyi’s re-election comes on the heels of the recent extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing both developments as a testament to his outstanding performance and global acceptance.
“We at the Nigeria Wrestling Federation are immensely proud of the impact our President is making beyond the shores of Nigeria. Just last week, we celebrated the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General, and now this remarkable re-election further demonstrates the confidence the international community has in his leadership,” Amkpila stated.
He added that Adeniyi has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership, innovative policy direction, and an exceptional capacity for global competitiveness, while effectively driving the strategic mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
“It is gratifying to see that his achievements and proven capacity at home have earned him the trust and confidence of the global customs community. We pray that God continues to grant him wisdom, strength, and courage as he serves in this important international role,” the statement concluded.
