By Christopher Odamah, Asaba

Ahead of the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council election, the POWER Consolidation Team has unveiled its campaign platform, calling for continuity, improved welfare and greater professionalism in the union.

The team, in a statement made available to PrimeAfricaReport, said its agenda was built around five key principles – Professionalism, Openness, Welfare, Engagement and Resourcefulness, collectively represented by the acronym POWER.

The team comprises Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman; Comrade Monday Osayande, Vice Chairman; Comrade Pere Botu, Secretary; Comeade Andy Emephia, Assistant Secretary; and Comrade Toju Oteri, Financial Secretary.

Other positions unopposed contesting, Treasurer, Comrade Caroline Ubini and Auditor, Comrade Michael Ilaya.

According to the group, the five principles had guided the activities of the NUJ Delta State Council over the last three years and would remain central to its proposed leadership direction.

The team said the objective was to consolidate what it described as gains already recorded, while addressing areas requiring improvement and introducing new initiatives where necessary.

It said its members were bringing together experience, teamwork, vision and a commitment to what it described as tangible results for members of the union.

The statement urged NUJ members to assess the council’s record and consider issues including professional development, welfare, unity, effective representation and accountability as the election approaches.

The group also appealed for an issue-based campaign, saying the election should focus on programmes, records, ideas and the future of the union rather than personal attacks and divisive rhetoric.

It further described its agenda as one focused on “continuity where it works, improvement where it is needed, and innovation where the future demands it.”

The team’s campaign slogan is “Consolidate the Gains. Advance the Union,” with the POWER acronym standing for Professionalism, Openness, Welfare, Engagement and Resourcefulness.

The 2026 election is expected to produce new officers to steer the affairs of the NUJ Delta State Council for the next tenure.
