Officials in Nigeria’s Delta State say they are fully prepared to host the finals of the President Federation Cup, the country’s oldest domestic football competition, this weekend.
The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, said the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba was ready to stage both the men’s and women’s finals on Saturday.
“Asaba has become one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for major sporting events,” Mr Oborevwori said, adding that the stadium had previously hosted competitions including the National Sports Festival, the National Youth Games, the Nigeria National League Super 8 and earlier editions of the Federation Cup.
“We are confident that football stakeholders from across Nigeria will witness one of the best-organised President Federation Cup finals this weekend,” he said.
The men’s final will see Ikorodu City face El-Kanemi Warriors, while Heartland Queens will take on Nasarawa Amazons in the women’s final.
The President Federation Cup is Nigeria’s premier domestic knockout football competition and one of the oldest football tournaments in the country. The finals are expected to draw supporters and football officials from across Nigeria to Asaba.
