NUJ Delta Celebrates Okowa at Birthday, Commends Legacy of People-Oriented Leadership

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has felicitated the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, on the occasion of his birthday, commending his contributions to the development of the state, the welfare of civil servants and media practitioners.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and the Acting Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, the union described Okowa as a leader whose administration was characterised by humility, accessibility and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

The council recalled that one of the landmark achievements of the Okowa administration was the approval of notional promotions to Grade Level 17 for eligible civil servants, thereby ending years of career stagnation that had seen many officers retire on Grade Level 16.

According to the statement, the policy boosted the morale of workers, rewarded years of dedicated service and continues to have a positive impact on the lives of many civil servants and their families.

The NUJ also praised the former governor for approving the creation of two additional departments in the Delta State Ministry of Information, describing the decision as one that enhanced career advancement opportunities for Information Officers and strengthened service delivery in the ministry.

It further acknowledged Okowa’s approval of the reintroduction of monthly stipends for registered practising journalists in the state, noting that the gesture reflected his appreciation of the media’s role in promoting democracy, accountability and good governance.

The council stated that the former governor’s people-centred policies and reforms had left an enduring legacy that would continue to be remembered by Deltans.

The NUJ prayed for God’s continued guidance, good health, wisdom and strength for Okowa as he celebrates another year.
