The POWER Consolidation Team, one of the groups participating in the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council elections, has suspended its campaign activities following recent deaths within the state’s journalism family.

The campaign team said the decision was a deliberate gesture of respect and solidarity with colleagues and families affected by the losses, despite the lifting of the campaign ban.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, POWER Consolidation Team
NUJ Delta State Council 2026 Election, Comrade Barth Ozah, the team said the journalism community in Delta State was mourning the death of the daughter of Comrade Giovanni Emephia, as well as the passing of Comrade Timenyi Odudu, a member of the professional family.

The POWER Consolidation Team said it had consequently resolved to put all campaign activities on hold until Monday, September 28, 2026, to allow members of the journalism community to mourn and stand with the bereaved families.

The team explained that its decision was guided by the conviction that the values of humanity, compassion and solidarity should take precedence over political and electoral activities at a time of grief.

“The temporary silence in our campaign activities following the lifting of the campaign ban is deliberate and borne out of respect for the sensibilities of our journalism family at this difficult moment,” the statement said.

The team appealed to its supporters, friends and well-wishers to bear with it and understand the decision, stressing that the suspension was intended to demonstrate solidarity with the affected families.

It also extended its condolences to the families of Comrade Giovanni Emephia and Comrade Timenyi Odudu, praying that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the losses.

The statement concluded with a prayer for the peaceful repose of the departed.
