The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, led by Comrade Isah Garba Gadau.

SWAN, in a congratulatory message signed by its Bauchi State Chairman, Bala Bawaji, described the successful NUJ election as an important milestone in the development of journalism in the state.

The association commended members of the NUJ for exercising their democratic rights in electing a new leadership, expressing confidence that the Gadau-led executive would build on the achievements of previous administrations.

SWAN also urged the new NUJ leadership to introduce initiatives that would strengthen the journalism profession and improve the welfare of journalists across Bauchi State.

The association called for greater emphasis on continuous professional training and capacity building, noting that journalists need to continually acquire new skills to remain effective in the rapidly changing media environment.

It further urged the new NUJ leadership to prioritise the protection of journalists’ rights, welfare and professional independence, while creating an enabling environment for journalists to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation or undue interference.

According to SWAN Bauchi, stronger collaboration among media unions and professional associations would contribute significantly to advancing the interests of journalists and promoting responsible journalism in the state.

The association pledged its continued support and cooperation with the new NUJ leadership, particularly in the areas of professional development, journalists’ welfare, capacity building and the promotion of unity within the media community.

SWAN Bauchi wished Comrade Isah Garba Gadau and members of his executive a successful tenure and called on journalists across the state to support the new leadership in its efforts to build a stronger, united and professionally vibrant journalism community.
