UNILORIN to Honour DOU VC Aghalino With Distinguished Alumnus Award

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has approved the conferment of its Distinguished Alumnus Award on the Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Delta State, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino.

The award, according to a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, is in recognition of Aghalino’s steadfast commitment to promoting the ideals and image of his alma mater.

In the letter dated July 22, 2026, and addressed to Aghalino at Dennis Osadebay University, the University of Ilorin said his contributions through academic engagements and public representation had consistently portrayed the institution in a favourable light.

The letter, titled “Conferment of a Distinguished Alumnus Award,” stated: “I am pleased to inform you that the Management of University of Ilorin has approved your nomination as a Distinguished Alumnus in recognition of your steadfast commitment to promoting the ideals and image of the University.”

The institution further commended the university administrator and renowned scholar for his sustained efforts in projecting the university’s reputation.

“Through your academic engagements and public representation, you have consistently portrayed the University in a most favourable light, for which we are deeply appreciative,” the letter stated.

The conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the University Auditorium, University of Ilorin.

The university, in the letter, expressed its anticipation of welcoming Aghalino back to the campus for the ceremony, describing the honour as “well-deserved” and extending the congratulations and best wishes of the entire university community to him.

The recognition comes as another major accolade for Aghalino, whose career has straddled scholarship, university administration and public service.

As Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Aghalino has been at the centre of efforts to consolidate the institution’s academic and administrative development, while advancing its visibility and reputation within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
